Just 17 days left in 2015 as I begin week 35 of my journey to health. By the time I post this blog there will be 10 days left. Wow.
I am excited to begin this week within 9.2 pounds of my goal weight. I probably won’t make it all the way by the end of the year, but you never know. As the week progresses I may add some thoughts, but for now let’s begin with the training log.
Monday – 5.06 miles in 41:38 for a pace of 8:13. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 60 degrees. PR fastest mile of 7:10.
Tuesday – 5.53 miles in 45:21 for an 8:12 pace. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 52 degrees. Also did 60 minute spin class.
Wednesday – 6.1 miles in 51:02 for a pace of 8:22. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 46 degrees.
Thursday – Rest Day
Friday – 5.02 miles in 41:08 for a pace of 8:12. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 39 degrees
Saturday – 9.02 miles in 1:16:47 for a pace of 8:30. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 31 degrees. Unofficial 10k PR of 52:41.
I altered my long run routine on Saturday. I typically take one minute walk breaks at the top of each mile on runs of 8+ miles. Today, I stretched it to every 1.5 miles. I noticed a surprising increase in fatigue around the 6 – 6.5 mile mark.

If you think that diet doesn’t play an important factor in this process, I proved you wrong this week. Despite logging 30 miles, I gained 3.4 pounds. I blame this on poor eating choices made both when I was sick on Thursday and when Beth and I went out to see Star Wars on Friday night. That said, I will not get down on myself because this week I also managed to try on a pair of 36 jeans and they fit with a little room to spare (I was a 44 back in April) and I tried on a Large pair of running shorts and they fit perfectly. My starting pair was a XXL. That’s progress either way you look at it.
