Welcome to my first training blog of 2016. Like last year, I am going to post my training log once per week if for nothing more than accountability. Knowing that some of you readers expect to see this actually does help motivate me on those sluggish mornings when I would rather stay in bed.

This was a crazy week as far as our schedule goes. We were in Belton, SC for New Year’s and for a job interviee for me. A change of scenery during my runs was kind of nice. We traveled back to MD on Monday so my normal training schedule of MTW off FS off had to be tweaked for a second straight week. That may not be a terrible thing anyway as it pushed my body out of routine.

Friday, January 1 – 5.52 miles in 47:11 for a pace of 8:33. Location: Belton, SC. Temp: 51 degrees, 65% humidity, and overcast.

It was a solid run to start the new year off with. I find myself recently having a very slow first quarter mile which mentally puts me behind the 8 ball for the rest of the run. Does this ever happen to you?

Saturday, January 2 – 12.02 miles in 1:49:40 for a pace of 9:07. Location: Belton, SC. Temp: 34 degrees, 78% humidity and clear.

Slower pace than I like, but mile 12 was my fastest mile at 8:32.

Wednesday, January 6 – 6.77 miles in 56:36 for a pace of 8:21. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 30 degrees, humidity 41%, clear and sunny.

I won’t bore you with today’s splits. Yesterday’s sub 8 minute pace was fool’s gold, but I was still happy with my 8:21 pace today. Also set a 10k PR on this run by a full 1:03.

Thursday, January 7 – 7.53 miles in 1:03:44 for a pace of 8:28. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 33 degrees, 79% humidity and overcast.

After 8 months of consistent running, I finally purchased my first pair of actual running socks. They are made by DeFeet and are 100% American made. They are a little bit thinner than what I am used to, but all in all they feel great.

It ended up being a great week as far as mileage goes. I’m disappointed in the weight moving up even the small amount that it did, but given it being a week of travel and spending time with family in SC, I guess a gain of .4 pounds isn’t something I should beat myself up over.
