An interesting development to start this week. Most of you have seen that I have plateaued in my weight loss recently. I may have found the answer. For a long time on this journey, MyFitnessPal had automatically updated my calorie goal as my weight dropped. I knew it hadn’t changed in a while, but I didn’t think a whole lot about it. In conversation with my friend David who is roughly the same size as me, we noticed a significant difference in his daily calorie goal and mine. Long story short, you now apparently have to manually tell the app to update your calorie goal from their website, and I had been apparently taking in about 300 more calories than needed. It made a huge difference as you will see at the end of this entry. So, if you are using MFP, make sure you are periodically visiting the website to update your goals. Otherwise, you may find yourself on a frustrated plateau like me.

Friday – 4.03 miles in 30:16 for a pace of 7:30. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp 34 degrees, humidity 85% and clear. A surprise development not in setting a new 5k PR, but in setting it at a time lower than my goal for 2016. That is my first 2016 goal checked off.

Saturday – 8.02 miles in 1:05:48 for a pace of 8:12. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 43 degrees, 84% humidity, clear and sunny. Also set a 10k PR of 50:17!

Today I also had the opportunity to attend a free injury prevention screening that was sponsored by our local running shop, Run Moore. Given the drastic changes that my body has undergone over the past 9 months, it seemed like a good idea. It was well organized and attended. Through the screening I discovered that the only thing I needed much improvement in is core stability. Guess I’ll be doing a lot of planks in the near future.

I love supporting local businesses and encourage you to do the same. I am able to purchase my Gu gels cheaper from this store than I had been able to through Amazon and I get a lot of information regarding local running events by going in there. Check out your local running store and see what goodies you can find there!

Sunday – Scheduled rest

Monday – 4.4 miles in 34:29 for a pace of 7:50. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 12 degrees with a wind chill of -6, 55% humidity and clear. Given the conditions, I attempted to run with a ski mask. I had a hard time regulating my breathing and pulled it off after about a mile. Very happy to have another sub 8:00 pace run in the books.
