Week 5 of 2016 is in the books. Can you believe that January is already gone? This was a solid week for me. I got back on the losing side with regard to weight and am now within 2.2 pounds of my goal. I have to be honest though and say that I kind of want to get under 200 to 198.4 just so I can say that I’ve lost an even 100 pounds.
I added a little bit of speed work twice a week. I’m doing quarter mile bursts at the top of each mile on the run following my rest day. I like the challenge it creates and that it doesn’t let me get complacent during my weekly routine.
I also switched my pre-run drink from Optimum Nutrition’s Pre-Workout to their Essential Amino Energy drink. I am not a huge fan of the taste, but the kick of energy seems to last a little bit longer which is huge for me on both my long runs ans on my speed work days. Well, enough rambling. Here’s the week in review.
Friday – 4.84 miles in 37:47 for a pace of 7:48. Location: Finksburg, MD. Temp: 36 degrees. Wind Chill: 28. Humidity: 76%. I decided to add quarter mile bursts at the top of each mile. It increased the fatigue factor exponentially and I didn’t have enough gas in the tank to do one at mile 4. That said, it was enjoyable and something I am going to add to my post rest day runs.
Saturday – 12.02 miles in 1:47:06 for a pace of 8:54. Location: Finksburg, MD. Temp: 19 degrees, 77% humidity, wind chill 19, and mostly cloudy. Took tenth of a mile walk breaks every 2 miles. Felt stronger at the end. In fact, mile 12 was my fastest mile by 6 seconds.
Sunday – Scheduled rest day
Monday – 5.32 miles in 42:19 for a pace of 7:57. Quarter mile bursts at the top of each mile. Location: Finksburg, MD. Temp: 46, Wind Chill 41, Humidity 82%, mostly clear. It felt great to run without a hat and gloves. Still hoping the trail opens back up soon.
Tuesday – 5.97 miles in 50:25 for a pace of 8:26. Location: Finksburg, MD. Temp: 28, Wind Chill 28, Humidity 90%, partly cloudy.

Thursday – 6.43 miles in 51:08 for a pace of 7:57. Location: Finksburg, MD. Temp: 43, Wind Chill: 39, 93% humidity and cloudy.
