Week 6 is in the books! It was another solid week of training. I have noticed that while trying to drop these pesky final pounds, I have found myself in somewhat of a cycle of up and down numbers on the scale. Admittedly, part of this is undoubtedly my own doing. My late night snack bug has reared its head and has gotten me on more than one occasion. That said, despite the weight increase this week, can I really be that upset about a week in which I set a half marathon PR in training?
Friday – 5.32 miles in 45:13 for a pace of 8:30. Location: Reese. Temp: 36, Wind Chill 30, 82% humidity and flurries. Went out too slow, but managed negative splits throughout.
Saturday – 13.14 miles in 1:51:23 for a pace of 8:29. Location: Downtown Westminster. Temp: 38. Planned on doing 14, but my phone was about to die and I didn’t want to losd all my data. I would have been under 2 hours for 14 miles which would have been awesome. Oh well, it was still a half marathon PR on the run.
Sunday – Scheduled rest day
Monday – 5.85 miles in 46:37 for a pace of 7:58. Location: Wakefield Valley Trail. Temp: 28, Wind Chill: 28, Humidity: 83%, and partly cloudy.
It felt great to get back on the trail today. I was amazed that even 2 weeks removed from the end of the blizzard there still a few small sections of the switchbacks that were covered with snow. It definitely had a slight effect on my pace, but I will not complain about any run with a sub 8 minute pace.
Tuesday – 3.35 miles in 29:58 for a pace of 8:56. Location: Finksburg, MD. Temp: 32, Wind Chill: 28, Humidity: 93%, and snowing.
I was planning on running about 6.5 on a simple out and back run. After waking up to snow and schools closing, I decided to venture out and see if I could get it in as the snow didn’t start until around 5 AM. It was slow going as I was being cautious but at the 3.35 mark, the roads didn’t feel safe to run on so I shut it down and walked the 3.35 back. It was still a beautiful morning.
Wednesday – 7.07 miles in 1:00:20 for a pace of 8:32. Location: Finksburg, MD. Temp: 27, Wind Chill: 18, Humidity: 85%, and cloudy.
Much better footing on the roads today. Still went out slow (mile 1 was 8:59). I pushed the last mile to try to be under an hour when I hit 7 miles. Very proud of that 7:38 split for the last mile that allowed me to hit that mark despite the slow start.
