Are we really 10 weeks into 2016 already? It’s hard to believe it.  This week turned out to be a lighter week mileage wise for a couple of reasons. I lost my training run last Friday due to winter weather. I was going to make it up on Sunday, but had a migraine. Saturday’s long run turned short as I was still recovering from the previous week’s illness that went through the house. I knew that Monday through Friday of this week I was going to back off the mileage as I am running in the Celtic Canter 5k on Saturday here in Westminster, MD (race report will follow) and I want fresh legs to try to improve on my official 5k PR that I set in November at the Turkey Trot. I have bested that a few times in training runs, but I want an official PR on Saturday.

Friday – No workout (winter weather). We had what I would consider a South Carolina winter event. We woke up to the ground being covered with snow and by early afternoon it was gone. Beth and I had a date planned for the afternoon and evening, so there was no run. I’m not even sorry. Date days are important!

Saturday – 2.95 miles (downtown Westminster) in 23:59 for a pace of 8:08. Coming off of a week with some sickness, I knew that my scheduled 13.5 wasn’t going to happen, but I was hoping to get in somewhere between 6-8. Well, that didn’t happen. I was able to get a very solid pace (that pace is with my Garmin and not my Nike app), but I just ran out of gas.  Better to run fewer miles than none at all.

Sunday – Rest Day

Monday – 4.78 miles in 39:23 for a pace of 8:14. I ran on the Wakefield Trail this morning. It was a brisk 36 degrees, but warmer weather is coming. This was a good opening run for this 5k race week.

Tuesday – 5.33 miles in 43;59 for a pace of 8:15. I ran on the Wakefield Trail again this morning. Weather has turned warm this week as it was 48 degrees. Solid run, although fatigue was still a factor.

Thursday -5k Tempo Run. 3.19 miles in 25:43 for a pace of 8:04.
